Remote learning Upper Key Stage 2 - Turquoise, Gold and Purple Classes

Welcome to the new UKS2 home learning page :

Turquoise class, Gold class and Purple class smiley

As we welcome back more children, we are aware that there may be some of you still having to isolate for periods of time. Here you will find all of the work that the children in school are completing.

As each class timetable is different, we have put the foundation subjects on all together as opposed to being set for each day. You will find these underneath the English and mathematics daily work.

Sending in your work

When you complete your work, email it in to your own class email so that we can mark it as we would if we were in school together. Just to remind you, these are :

turquoisehw@tonacliffe.lancs.sch.uk

goldhw@tonacliffe.lancs.sch.uk

purplehw@tonacliffe.lancs.sch.uk

It would be fantastic if you could email this work in daily, so that we can respond to you while it is all still fresh in your mind. This also helps us to provide you with advice in a timely manner, so that you are able to continue to build up your skills as you would in class with daily feedback. As such, we will endeavour to reply to your emails on the same day, but if you have not received a reply by 5pm please be assured it will arrive the next working day. We apologise for this, but as we are sure you can appreciate, we are currently doing our very best to meet the needs of all children both within school and at home and this requires us setting aside enough time to prepare quality video teaching inputs and resources in order to support all learners.

Please do remember that as well as sending us your completed work, we also love to receive messages, photos and videos from you all! It is fantastic when we get to see what you have been getting up to as we miss hearing your daily news in class!

Stay safe, stay positive and keep in touch - we can't wait to see you!

Mrs Devine, Miss Griffiths, Miss Noble and Mr German smiley

Accessing additional online learning resources

Please remember that you should still be trying to access your reading quizzes from home, as well as using TT Rockstars to continue to rehearse your times tables. You should have your log in details already for each of these, but if you haven't then please contact your class teacher via your class email. The links to both resources can be found below :

Story time sessions

Please note that in order to listen to your class teacher read the class novel to you, you can still find all of the video links on your usual class page. smiley

Where to find home learning work from previous weeks

Work from the previous week will still be accessible from the usual class page, but as

from 01.02.21 all future work will be obtainable only from here.

Home Learning Daily Timetable

Weekly Work : What to expect

Each week we will aim to upload the entire week's work in advance.

This is to give you the flexibility you need to complete work, whilst juggling other at home demands and responsibilities. We know it is hard! We understand that your schedules have to flexible and that everything may not be completed at the exact time it is stated on the suggested timetable.

Please note that due to MATHS lessons being filmed during the course of each daily lesson, they will be uploaded on a daily basis.

Online thesaurus guide

Because we understand that not everybody will have access to a thesaurus at home, please see our online tutorial that guides you through how to use an online thesaurus. This will be particularly useful during your English lessons, but you should also use this to help you make ambitious vocabulary choices when attempting any piece of written work in any subject.

Reading Challenge

We have a new reading challenge for you to complete. Have a look at the document below which has 21 little challenges for you to complete whilst reading! We would love to see you all taking part! It would also be great to see some pictures of you carrying out the challenges at home so please send them in to the homework emails!

Enjoy Reading!

This week, we are looking at our feelings as more children return to school, and the feelings of others. We know that we may all be feeling a different range of emotions and that we need to respect how others are feeling and be considerate towards them.

Choose a sunny day for this piece of work - we're keeping our fingers crossed that we get some sunshine for us to be able carry it out!

Now that you have learnt that light travels in straight lines, have a think about how you think shadows are formed.

Cut out some shapes from opaque card. Shine a torch (the torch on a phone will suffice) at the opaque card and study the shadow. Draw a diagram showing how the light source (the torch) shines on the object and how the shadow is created by the object blocking the light.

Draw a picture of yourself outside in the sun. Can you draw the shadow that would be formed? Now go outside into the sun and look at your shadow. Consider the following questions:

Is it where you expected it to be?

Is it the size and shape that you expected it to be?

What colour is your shadow?

Does your shadow touch you?

What details can you see in your shadow?

Where is your shadow in relation to the sun?

Now investigate:

How does your shadow change throughout the day?

You can decide how to complete this investigation. Think about where you will be able to complete this investigation, what you will use to create the shadow as well as how often you will observe and measure it.

Begin by writing a prediction. What do you think will happen to your shadow? Will it stay in the same place?

Then consider how you will record your results - you may choose to take photographs, measure the size of your shadow, ask someone at home to draw around it with chalk... or you may have a different idea that you would like to try!

For your work this week, it would really useful if you could gather the following equipment:

Ribbon, string, thread, wool, garden twine, spaghetti, pens - anything of this description!

A small object e.g. a toy car or dinosaur, water bottle or book

Opaque card - this could be a shoe box that is not needed or any other similar packaging. Please don't rush to order anything especially for this - we are sure you will have something in your recycling that you could use! (Pizza boxes would work marvellously!)

White paper

Tin foil or anything else shiny

Black paper - if you don't have any, please don't worry! If you have any tubes (kitchen roll, wrapping paper etc) these will do the trick. Miss Griffiths also found that a dark takeaway menu will work adequately too!
