Week beginning 17th January 2022

Phonics and Reading

Your phonics and reading work is on Bug Club (please find the link below). It is important that you complete the phonics lesson everyday and at least 15 minutes of reading each day - remember reading is the key to success.

Tuesday 18th January 2022

Read The Way Back Home (see PowerPoint below).

Tell children we are going to make a change to The Way Back Home. What changes can we make?

  • Year 1 are changing the transport (ideas could be jet pack, hot air balloon, helicopter)
  • Year 2 are changing the transport and the moon (children can choose another planet)

Children need to draw their own story map using the template that you can find below. They need to start at the beginning of the story and draw the story out (remember to draw your new changes. So instead of drawing the aeroplane, you need to draw whatever you have changed the transport too).

Once you have done this, practise retelling the story orally.

Wednesday 19th January 2022

Look at the story map you did yesterday. Write the beginning of your story using your story map. Stop when you get to part where the boy lands on the moon. Remember to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Try to write in the past tense and include conjunctions and adjectives.

Thursday 20th January 2022

Look back at your story map. Write the rest of your story using your story map. Remember to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Try to write in the past tense and include conjunctions and adjectives.

Friday 21st January 2022 - Literacy

Listen to the beginning of the story. Stop at 1 minute 46 seconds. Discuss the different parts of the body (head, eyes, ears, mouth, nose, neck, shoulders, arms, elbow, stomach, legs, knees, feet and toes. Sing head, shoulders, knees and toes with actions. What are the five senses? Which part of the body is associated with each sense? For example, we use our nose to smell.

Complete the activities below.

Online Safety

Please can you make your own gymnastics routine including:

- balancing on one leg

- pencil roll (keep legs straight and together, keep body tight, roll turning from hips)

Can you remember your routine and perform it to someone on your household? You can record your routine and send it into the homework email.
