Hello everyone and welcome to Orange Class.


I hope you have all had a lovely summer break and are ready for the year ahead.  Read the information below to find out what you will be learning over the next term and to take note of some important information.


PE: Tuesday and Wednesday.  Remember to come to school in the correct PE uniform.

Homework: Read daily. Spellings handed out on Friday to be tested on the following Wednesday. Learn multiplicaiton tables and complete challenges on Times Tables Rockstars.

Learning Logs: Please return to school any Wednesday during the term.


Please make sure reading books and diaries are brought into school daily.

Ensure all clothing is labelled.

Remember to bring a coat to school every day, we will play outside whatever the weather.


Literacy: The term will start with reading and writing fables followed by diary writing and non-chronological reports.  In addition to reading and writing in these genre the children will also have spelling, handwriting and grammar lessons.

Children will receive guided reading, spelling, grammar, handwriting and reading comrehension lessons at least once per week. 



Mathematics: The term starts with place value, decimals and fractions followed by addition and subtraction. The learning  will then move on to shape, time, division and mutliplican and stastistics.  You can help your child be making sure they learn the multiplication tables up to 12 x 12. 


Science: Living things and their habitats, including those found in our locality.

Geography: The children will study the human and physical geography of the UK, focussing on Whitworth and complete some local fieldwork. 

Art: Drawing and 3D, looking in depth at the work of LS Lowry and Constable.  The focus will then shift to studying printing and textiles witha  focus on the works of Mackintosh and Orla Kiely.

RE: Diwali and Hinduism.

PSHE: Healthy lifestyles.

Computing: Connecting computers.

TT Rockstars

The children now have a ttrockstars account and have been shown how to use the programme in school. Using the programme is now part of the weekly homework.

Go to and enter the school name and the username and password that the children put in their diaries. 

It is important that all children have some undisturbed time to do this and they must do it independently.

Certificates for the top three scores in the class (year 3 and year 4) will be given out on a Friday afternoon by email.
