Welcome to Orange Class

Year 1&2!

Spring 1

Welcome back and happy new year! We have lots planned for the beginning of 2019!

One thing we will be doing is going to be getting our ks1 outdoor area up and running this term.

Look out for the pictures of our transformation!

However we are drastically looking for donations of the following:

300ml and 500ml clear plastic bottles

Old tyres

Flower pots

Gardening tools

An outside brush

Old drain pipe or other pipe

Watering cans

Pegs and sunbed clips

Old material/sheets

Cable ties

Big cardboard boxes

We really appreciate all the help you can give us!

RAFC will be in every Monday afternoon! This is a fantastic opportunity for all children so please make sure all PE kit is in school - including trainers.

In class this term we will be covering:

Literacy - Stories by Beatrix Potter

Numeracy - Time, number and measurement

Phonics - phase 3, phase 5 and phase 6 sounds and spelling patterns.

Guided Reading - one guided read with Mrs Sutcliffe, one re-read of a text, one activity, an own read and a pre-read of a text.

PE - Gymnastics

Music - Singing and rhythm

History - How trains have changed over time and the history of Whitworth's railways

Re - Islam

Science - Materials

Computing - Typing and text

Art/DT - Structures (we will be making our own railway stations!)

Homework and Spellings

Spellings will be given out every Friday and tested the following Wednesday. Nothing needs handing in for these.

Learning log homework will be given out at the beginning of each half term. (Please see below for a link to our learning log homework sheet)

Children are also expected to read their home reading books every night. These will be changed on a Friday for Y1. Y2 books will be changed when they have finished it, after completing a quiz on it. If they have read their books they can read any other books at home and take part in their READING CHALLENGE! (Reading challenge sheets are also below)

Can I please ask that you sign your child's reading diary so I know they have completed their reading homework. This is very important as children receive a sticker and a smiley face for reading at home :)

Please ensure children have both indoor and outdoor PE kit in school every day as we may change the day we do PE. If your child has earrings please ensure they can take them out or have plasters to cover them.

Toast is £1.00 a week and children bring this in on a Monday. However they are welcome to bring their own healthy snack instead.

Please make sure your contact details are up to date in case of emergency. We will try all numbers given in the case of an emergency if we cannot reach the first contact.

If you have any problems please don't hestitate to contact me. :)

Please remember to return your email address slip to school. Thank you.
